[OVERVIEW]
[cod] ]catfish[ is a web-theatre project I'm currently developing as a part of my curriculum in the MFA Playwriting program at UCLA. The working concept is that there is a spirit that lives on the internet known as Zephyr, and Zephyr is inviting you (yes, you) to investigate a strange online world whose denizens all have one thing in common: they're all catfishing each other. While they keep this a secret from each other, you are very aware of it, and the web experience consists of you clicking through various parts of the map to uncover more details of the intimate lives of the catfishers, who they really are, and what their false identity means to them. The project eventually culminates in a live theatrical performance where the catfishers are forced to meet each other IRL and reckon with the emotional fallout of discovering who they really are.
[DESIGN]
In my current phase of development, I'll be adapting an interactive map that I created in my creative coding class using p5.js (a programming language for artists based on Javascript), and putting it into a website on Glitch. In this design document, I will show some of the web elements for the project, and how they function for an audience. The image above is a digital map I created used Photoshop, and each part will eventually become clickable, leading to a "scene" or event within the larger narrative.
This is a living document that will change regularly. The navigation links at the bottom of this page share a lot of details behind [cod] ]catfish[, as well as its inspiration.
The website is a work-in-progress. But to get a better sense of what the navigation map is supposed to do, feel free to check it out here here:
